Getting ready to finish

Congratulations! You’ve made it to the end of your apprenticeship or traineeship, and your hard work is about to be formally recognised. You’ve gained skills and experience – plus the confidence to move ahead in your chosen career.

Your apprenticeship or traineeship is successfully completed when:

  • You achieve all the competencies in your training plan
  • Your employer confirms with your Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that you are competent in the workplace
  • Your RTO (for example your TAFE or trade school) enters the info received from your employer into the apprenticeship database.

If you’re an apprentice, the Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority will send you and your employer written confirmation once your apprenticeship is complete. You’ll need to keep this letter as your formal evidence of completion.

If you’re a trainee, your RTO will send you confirmation once your traineeship is complete, and they’ll also provide a certificate showing the qualification you’ve achieved.

Here are some things to look into once you’ve finished your training:

Independent Assessment Trials: these help Apprenticeships Victoria monitor training outcomes

Trade papers: these recognise the successful completion of your trade apprenticeship.
