Taking care of your wellbeing
Get the best out of your apprenticeship by taking care of all aspects of your wellbeing: from staying connected to friends and community, eating nutritious food, through to getting enough sleep.
Sometimes, life as an apprentice can be challenging. If you’re going through a tough time, knowing when to take a break or where to seek support will help you to recover and get back on track.
Reaching out for help
Many people put off seeking help for their mental health because they don’t think that what they’re experiencing is “bad enough”. Truth is, there is no harm in asking for help – no matter how big or small you feel the problem is.
Below are some signs that you should reach out for help:
- When your feelings don’t go away: If stress, anxiety, or low mood last for more than two weeks without improving.
- When it’s affecting your daily life: If you’re struggling to function at work, home, or in relationships.
- If you are using unhealthy coping mechanisms: You may be drinking more, using drugs, gambling or avoiding your responsibilities.
- When others are concerned: Sometimes, those around you notice changes in your mood or behaviour before you do.
- If you feel overwhelmed: When you feel like you’re at a breaking point and can’t cope on your own.
