Some of the common problems for people who overuse alcohol and drugs can include:

- Mood swings and feeling irritable.
- Frequent headaches.

- Conflict in relationships with family, friends, partners, and colleagues.
- Spending too much money on alcohol or drugs.
- Poor performance at work and school.
- Embarrassment and shame about how they behave when they’re under the influence.

If you’re concerned about your alcohol and drug use – or someone else’s – you can seek advice and support from a number of free, confidential services. There’s no harm in reaching out, even if you don’t feel like the problem is “bad enough” – acting early can save lives.
