Who will I interact with?
While you are doing an apprenticeship or traineeship as well as working for your employer, you'll also connect with other organisations to complete your formal training, receive available support, and to make sure your hard work is officially recognised.
Employer
Your employer might be a large company or government organisation, or it could be a small business. The employer hires apprentices or trainees and provides the support, training and supervision you need to gain skills and knowledge in your industry. In larger companies you may work day to day with a supervisor rather than your employer.
Group Training Organisation
Apprentices and trainees may be employed by a Group Training Organisation, sometimes known as a GTO, which then places them with host employers to cover the workplace experience needed over the period of employment. The Group Training Organisation is your formal employer who will pay you, organise the training contract and arrange the training you need for your apprenticeship or traineeship. Find a Group Training Organisation.
Employer/Workplace
On-the-job training and supervision is a big part of any apprenticeship or traineeship. The mentoring and hands-on experience you get at work provide skills and knowledge you’ll need to complete your qualification. Find out more information by visiting our supervision guidelines.
Registered Training Organisation
The Registered Training Organisation, also known as the RTO, is usually a Victorian TAFE institute, and is where you get your formal training and work towards your qualification. Your Registered Training Organisation works with you and your employer to create a training plan, deliver training, assess skills, and issue the qualification once you’re done. Search available courses.
Training Contract
A training contract is a formal agreement between an employer and an apprentice or trainee that lasts for the term of the apprenticeships or traineeship and outlines the obligations of each party. Find out more about the training contract.
Apprentice Connect Australia Provider
Your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider, sometimes known as an ACAP, organises your training contract signing, registration of your apprenticeship or traineeship, and can offer additional supports, including financial supports and mentoring services.
When starting your apprenticeship or traineeship, your employer has 14 days to organise your training contract with an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider. Find an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider. The Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority
The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, sometimes known as the VRQA, regulates and maintains a register of apprenticeships and traineeships in Victoria. The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority formally approves your training arrangement and makes sure that everyone meets their obligations under the contract.
