The Outreach, Engagement and Workplace Rights Training Program helps apprentices create positive changes in their workplaces. By educating apprentices on their rights and providing guidance, the program aims to foster successful apprenticeships and empower apprentices to address problems at any employment stage.
Throughout 2026, the Young Workers Centre will continue delivering training to increase apprentices’ knowledge of their workplace rights, boost their confidence in addressing issues, and support physical and psycho-social safety.
Workplace Rights Training modules
The Apprentice Readiness training includes 4 topics designed for all first-year apprentices in TAFE.
What apprentices can expect
Experienced Outreach Organisers who have a background in the trades provide first-year apprentices with practical workplace rights education tailored to their needs.
By the end of the training, first year apprentices can expect to understand their workplace rights better, feel more confident identifying and discussing hazards before they escalate, and know where to get help when they need it.
Training is designed to support successful apprenticeships and give young workers the tools to navigate problems at any stage of their training.
Deliver format
Sessions run for approximately 1 hour, to fit within standard TAFE class times. Training can also be tailored to suit specific schedules, group sizes, cohorts, and locations.
While in-person training works best, sessions can be delivered online via Teams or Zoom by an Outreach Organiser. Modules can also be accessed online if an apprentice can’t attend a session
Additional support
Occasionally, apprentices might want to discuss issues they are facing with a YWC Outreach Organiser after training. In such cases, apprentices are encouraged to seek support through their Apprenticeship Support Officer, by calling the Apprentice Helpdesk, by accessing TAFE services, or by referral to the YWC legal team.
