In 2027, six priority apprenticeships will be added to Victoria’s Free TAFE program.
The Victorian Government will cover the cost of the first year of tuition fees for apprentices who start one of these apprenticeships at TAFE.
The six qualifications are in areas where there is high demand for apprentices. They are:
- Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying
- Certificate III in Carpentry
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
- Certificate III in Plumbing
- Certificate III in Baking
- Certificate III in Hairdressing
Adding these apprenticeships to Free TAFE makes it more affordable for businesses to take on new apprentices.
It also removes a potential barrier to starting an apprenticeship. Some apprentices can pay the tuition fees for their formal training up front and are reimbursed later by their employer. For some people, this might not be affordable.
Apprentices interested in starting a Free TAFE apprenticeship in 2027 can find the steps they need to take, and support to get started, on our How to get started page.
Employers who are interested in taking on a first-year apprentice in 2027 can find information and support on our How to hire an apprentices and trainees page.
